With moving to an apartment comes the need for new furniture. Since moving to Kyoto, I have been searching for a few key items to complete my new living space, but I didn’t want to get everything from IKEA. While visiting a flea market here in Kyoto last weekend, I stumbled across one stall that had some pieces of amazing furniture that really caught my eye. The craftsman participates in the flea market on the 25th of each month at Tenmangu here in Kyoto, and attracts a lot of shoppers
Allow me to introduce Kyoto Takagamine. Their small shop produces furniture pieces made from Japanese cypress and cedar. They are unique, clean, simple, functional and beautiful. The pieces are produced using traditional methods using simple materials. No nails or screws are used in the assembly, and the stains are natural.
If you are in the market for pieces of furniture that are handmade, unique and that contain that quintessential Japanese style, than I highly recommend you visit their shop, contact them or check out the flea market and chat them up.
